FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Hardwood Floor Refinishing?
Refinishing means sanding your floors down to bare wood, re-staining (with the color of your choice) and applying polyurethane. If you prefer oil-based polyurethane, we will apply 2 coats and lightly sand between coats. With water-based poly, 3 coats are used with light sanding between coats 1 and 2 and scuffing between coats 2 and 3. We always make sure to “tack” or clean the dust prior to each coat. This is the method most are familiar with. Our hardwood floor refinishing services provide homeowners with a finish that is as close to perfection as possible, and our low prices make it very affordable. The process can take anywhere from 2-4 days.
What is Hardwood Floor Resurfacing?
Resurfacing is our signature service that delicately removes light scratches, scuffs, embedded dirt, and dullness. It preserves the wood’s color, except for adding brightness, and avoids extensive sanding of your valuable wood surface. Not only can this process be used on any type of wood, but it is also our most cost-effective service, with prices starting at only 99¢ per square foot. Most projects can be completed in hours, rather than days.
I Have a Few Really Deep Scratches, Do I Need Resurfacing or Refinishing?
We’ll walk you through the benefits of each service to make sure you choose the right fit your wants and needs. A deep scratch here and there may not be a bad thing. Some folks call it character, some turn it into a story, some simply don’t see the “value added” with the added expense of removing the deep scars. If you have pets or children, then removing ALL scratches may very well be a temporary thing. Maybe resurfacing is the right direction, maybe all you need to do is to protect your long-term investment. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us. We would be more than happy to assist you and we promise that we will never pressure you into purchasing a service that you don’t need.
Can You Fix Warping?
Our refinishing service can typically fix some warping. You can see examples of this in our before and after gallery. Reach out to us today for a conversation about your project requirements, and we can explore the possibility of addressing your warped floorboards.
I Have Pet Stains On My Hardwood Floors, Can You Fix It?
Cleaning pet accidents when they are fresh is the key to keeping your hardwood floors in pristine condition. If cleaning with the steps outlined in the next section doesn’t fix the problem area, then the urine has probably soaked into your flooring and more serious hardwood floor restoration work will be required. We are confident in our ability to conquer most pet stains, but please contact us to determine the severity of your stain.
What Do I Use To Clean Deep Stains On My Hardwood Floors?
For effective cleaning, the recommended solution is a mixture of white vinegar and water (1 part vinegar to 4 parts water). Use a spray bottle for minor, everyday accidents and a bucket for larger stains. Thoroughly scrub the stains, and then wipe it completely dry. Repeat if needed. Beware of ammonia in cleaners; pet urine actually contains ammonia, and if your pet smells the ammonia where they last had an accident, they are more likely to want to relieve themselves in that same spot next time.
Is Your Process Really Dust Free?
Our hardwood restoration methods create very little dust because our equipment mounted vacuums eliminate most of it. What remains is a very thin coating of dust on the floor. No airborne dust is generated, and when we say none we mean it! After vacuuming up any remaining dust on the floor, the surface is then cleaned using tack rags.
Is Your Process Odorless?
For resurfacing, we use only waterborne products that are “Greenguard” certified. The only smell is a very light, pleasant aroma.
How Much Does it Cost to Refinish or Resurface a Hardwood Floor?
The total cost depends entirely on the size and scope of the job. However, the typical resurfacing job starts at just $0.99 per sq/ft. Give us a call today for a free price estimate on your project.
